The gem of an idea to set-up a Youth Trust to put youth workers on the ground in our communities was birthed in 2008, and we became a registered Charitable Trust on 1st April 2009 (we are also registered with the Companies Office). We are focused on supporting youth workers who are working with young people in the 2 residential homes and in the communities, but we also know that the needs of the whanau of the young people are very real and beyond our expertise. In response to this we are committed to partnering with other agencies to increase our effectiveness. As a Trust, rather than focusing on one aspect of a young person’s life, we have a holistic approach that we believe will help us to build an effective wrap around service for the young people with their whanau and we hope that ultimately lives will be transformed. It is fun sometimes, very tough and sad at other times, yet always this journey is an experience that humbles and moves us forward – and an immense privilege we don’t take for granted.
What we do is diverse (see different tabs) We seek to value the young people and their families through all we do. Threaded through the diversity of all ESYT does, is the commitment we have to delivering quality, professional youth work with real integrity, recognising we are more with God’s love weaved into who we are and all we do. We seek to create places and experiences that offer the young people as place of belonging and that give them new skills. Hand-in-hand with this is the constant awareness of the values we carry. As youth workers we are role models and we strive to leave the young people and their whanau with a sense of trust, hope, compassion and stability.
